The power of nature can free us from demands, expectations, and unnecessary stress and simultaneously bring us back home to our true selves. ~ BEYOND THE GARDEN GATE ~
Create a space as big as your imagination will allow in your mind, then picture this:
You find yourself standing before an arched white iron gate adorned with flowers, vines, and leaves. The words carved out in the sign above read: Beyond the Garden Gate.
Curious and desperate to retreat, you step over the threshold. Entering, you notice that you are now wrapped in a soft, white, terry-cloth robe and barefoot. Looking around in this magnificent garden, you take in the beauty that stretches in every direction as far as the eye can see. This breathtaking scenery showcases a wall of trees, flowers, and butterflies painted in every color and shade. Feel the soft grass as it cushions and massages your tired feet. Squish your toes into the blades and let your soles sink into the Earth. In the passing breeze, you pick up the fresh scent of roses. Allow its fragrance to whisk away all worries, cares, and thoughts.
Further ahead, you spot a small waterfall and head towards it, walking mindfully with each step, slowly and in synchronicity with your breathing. When you arrive at the waterfall, close your eyes. Listen to the water pour over the rock wall and stream into a shimmering pool. Inhale deeply and relish this moment. Relinquish all demands you place on yourself. Allow your mind to empty. Connect with your nature ancestors, and remember that you are a child of Earth. You are alive! Feel the warmth of the sun as it massages the skin you’re in. Observe the layers of cells and tissues that comprise your body. Let any thoughts that appear drift away with the passing breeze. There is no need for words or languages. Only the realization that this is existence. Now, opening your eyes, you kneel beside the pond and dip your cupped hands below the surface. Feel the cool, refreshing water as it hydrates your skin. Watch how it seeps effortlessly through your fingers and over the sides of your hands, reminding you to flow with life. All around you is the beauty of nature. Listen to the birds cooing. Hear the rustling of the leaves on the trees that provide shelter and shade to the many providers and creatures here on Earth. So rare and perfect our beautiful “Goldilocks” planet is! Contemplate everything she provides for her children, from vital rainforests to the most essential resource for life: water.
Yawning contentedly, you walk over to the hammock between two willow trees and climb into it. Rocking gently from side to side, give yourself this time to rest your mind, recharge your spirit, and refuel your body’s need for restoration. Listen to the creaking sound of the tree branches as it sways with the wind. Close your eyes again and drift away to a place in your mind that brings comfort and ease. You are protected and safe in this garden sanctuary you created in your imagination. Use this rare retreat to come back to you. You matter, and so does your well-being!
Remember that this garden represents the heart of Mother Nature, and she has gifted you with an invitation to come here anytime at all. No key or password is required.
